India made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Yusuf Pathan and Joginder (Shar)made way for Virender Sehwag and Twenty20 International debutant Murali Kartik.
Australia made a couple of changes to the (Micha)eleven
that last played the Indians – Hussey and Mitchell Johnson made way for Ricky
Ponting (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the toss) and
Ben Hilfenhaus.
Adam, who faced five balls, scored a dozen. His runs
came by way of boundaries. Five balls into the match, Rudra Pratap Singh broke
the 12-run (Gilchri)stand.
Australia scored 50 off 5.2 overs (33 balls). India
had conceded an extra at that point.
Matthew Hayden, whose 19-ball innings included a
boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 17. Thirty-seven balls after Gilchrist’s
dismissal, Harbhajan Singh broke the 48-run stand.
Australia scored 100 off 12.3 overs (76 balls). India
had conceded three extras at that point.
Ponting’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries –
came off 34 balls.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 36 balls. While Ponting’s
contribution to the partnership was 28, Andrew Symonds’ contribution to it was
20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
In fact, the third-wicket pair didn’t add to the
aforementioned partnership. Symonds, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary,
didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-seven balls after Hayden’s dismissal,
Harbhajan and Yuvraj Singh ran him out.
Brad Hodge, whose faced half-a-dozen balls, scored
just a couple. Eleven balls later, Irfan Pathan broke the six-run stand.
Australia scored 150 off 18.1 overs (111 balls). India
had conceded eight extras at that point.
Ponting, whose 53-ball innings included 13 boundaries,
eventually scored 76. Four overs after Hodge’s dismissal, Pathan broke the
42-run stand.
Michael Clarke, whose 15-ball innings included a
couple of boundaries, scored 25. He was unbeaten, as was Brad Haddin, who faced
four balls, scoring five.
India eventually conceded nine extras. Australia
scored 166 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Sreesanth and Kartik were wicketless. While the former conceded 47, the latter
conceded 27.
Rudra Pratap and Harbhajan picked up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 17. Pathan, who conceded 34,
picked up two scalps apiece.
Sehwag, whose four-ball innings included a boundary,
scored five. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Adam Gilchrist. Brett Lee
broke the 20-run stand.
India scored 50 off five overs (33 balls). Australia had
conceded nine extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While the
contribution of Gautam Gambhir, the player of the match, to the partnership was
25, Robin Uthappa’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the
partnership was four.

Uthappa, whose 26-ball innings included half-a-dozen
boundaries, eventually scored 35. Forty-nine balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he
was caught by Gilchrist. Clarke broke the 82-run partnership.
Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries
and a six – came off 40 balls. He eventually scored 63 off 52 balls, which included
half-a-dozen boundaries, in addition to the six. Thirty-one balls later, he was
caught by Ponting. Hilfenhaus broke the 41-run stand.
India scored 150 off 16.3 overs (107 balls). Australia
had conceded 22 extras at that point.
Yuvraj, whose 25-ball innings included a boundary and
three sixes, scored 31. He was unbeaten, as was Mahendra Singh, India’s
skipper, who scoreD(ho)nine. His five-ball innings included a six.
Australia eventually conceded 24 extras. India, who
scored 167 for the loss of three wickets off 18.1 overs, won by seven wickets
with 11 balls to spare.
Nathan Bracken bowled two wicketless overs, conceding
19. Symonds bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 19. Stuart Clark bowled
four wicketless overs, conceding 33.
Clarke bowled two overs, conceding 14. He picked up a
wicket. Lee bowled 3.1 overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket. Hilfenhaus bowled
four overs, conceding 28. He picked up a wicket.
