England avenge loss; India D(hon)isappointed

India made a couple of changes to theiR Playing eleven – Irfan Pathan and Pragyan Ojha made way for Ravindra Jadeja and Singh.

England made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Darren Maddy, Vikram Solanki, Andrew Flintoff and Chris Tremlett made way for Ravi Bopara, James Foster, Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom, the player of the match.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, inserted the hosts.

Luke Wright had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a run. Ten balls into the match, he was caught by Yusuf Pathan. Rudra Pratap broke the three-run stand.

England scored 50 off seven overs (43 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Ravi Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Kevin Pietersen’s contribution to it was 35. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Bopara, whose run-a-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 37. Fifty-five balls later, Jadeja broke the 71-run partnership.

Pietersen, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually scored 46. Thirteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Pietersen, who broke the 18-run stand.

England scored 100 off 15 overs (92 balls). India had conceded three extras at that point.

Dimitri Mascarenhas, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 25. He was unbeaten.

Owais Shah, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, scored a dozen. Twenty-six balls after Pietersen’s dismissal, he was caught by Jadeja. Harbhajan Singh broke the 30-run stand.

Although his five-ball innings included a boundary, Paul Collingwood had no reason to be in seventh heaven – seven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Zaheer Khan, who broke the 16-run stand.

Foster, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan, who broke the seven-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Swann, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Harbhajan.

England scored 150 off 19.5 overs (125 balls). India had conceded 16 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Stuart Broad, who faced a ball, scored three. He was unbeaten.

England scored 153 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs. Yuvraj Singh, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He was wicketless, as was Ishant Sharma, who bowled four overs, conceding 36.

Khan and Rudra Pratap bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 13. Jadeja, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceding 30.

Rohit Sharma, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Eleven balls into the chase, Sidebottom broke the 12-run stand.

Suresh Raina, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Wright. Sidebottom broke the 12-run stand.

India scored 50 off 8.3 overs (54 balls). England had conceded four extras at that point.

Gautam Gambhir, whose run-a-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 26. Forty-two balls later, he was caught by Broad. Mascarenhas broke the 42-run stand.

Jadeja, whose 35-ball innings included a boundary, scored 25. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Broad. Swann broke the 23-run stand.

Yuvraj, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 17. Three balls later, he was stumped by Foster. Swann broke the two-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Dhoni’s contribution to the partnership was 24, Yusuf’s contribution to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Dhoni, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 30. He was unbeaten, as was Yusuf, who scored 33. His 17-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes.

England eventually conceded eight extras. India, who scored 150 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs (124 balls), lost by three runs.

Pietersen bowled a wicketless over, conceding nine. Wright bowled two wicketless overs, conceding 16. James Anderson and Broad bowled four wicketless overs. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 21.

Mascarenhas bowled an over, conceding nine. He picked up a wicket. Sidebottom and Swann bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 28.

M S-led India don’t WIn

India made no changes to their playing eleven.

Rohit Sharma, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls into the match, he was caught by Lendl Simmons. Fidel Edwards broke the 12-run stand.

Suresh Raina, who faced eight balls, scored five. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Denesh Ramdin. Edwards broke the run-a-ball innings.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Three balls later, he was caught by Simmons. Dwayne, the player of the match, Br(av)oke the two-run stand.

India scored 50 off 8.4 overs (54 balls). The West Indies had conceded three extras at that point.

Dhoni, who faced 23 balls, scored 11. Forty-seven balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Andre Fletcher. Bravo broke the 37-run stand.

India scored 100 off 15.3 overs (96 balls). The West Indies had conceded four extras at that point.

Yuvraj Singh’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 37 balls.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Yusuf Pathan’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Yuvraj, whose 43-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 67. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Edwards, who broke the 64-run partnership.

Yusuf, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 31. Nine balls later, Bravo broke the 10-run stand.

Irfan Pathan, who faced three balls, scored a couple. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Simmons. Bravo broke the one-run stand.

Harbhajan Singh, whose four-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 13. He was unbeaten, as was Zaheer Khan, who didn’t face a ball.

The West Indies eventually conceded five extras at that point.

India scored 150 off 20 overs (124 balls). They scored 153 for the loss of seven wickets at that end of their innings.

Kieron Pollard, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Sulieman Benn and Chris Gayle, the West Indies’ skipper, bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 13. Jerome Taylor, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 44.

Edwards, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up three scalps. Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked up four scalps.

Fletcher, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Yuvraj. Irfan broke the nine-ball stand.

Gayle, whose 28-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 22. Thirty-eight balls later, he was caught by Khan. Yusuf broke the 33-run stand.

The West Indies scored 50 off nine overs (55 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Simmons’ contribution to the partnership was 20, Bravo’s contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

The West Indies scored 100 off 14.2 overs (89 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Simmons, whose 37-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 44. Forty-four balls after Gayle’s dismissal, he was caught by Irfan. Pragyan Ojha broke the 58-run partnership.

Bravo’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 29 balls.

The West Indies scored 150 off 18.3 overs (114 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Bravo’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s contribution to it was 18. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Bravo, whose 36-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 66. He was unbeaten, as was Chanderpaul, who didn’t add to the aforementioned score. His nine-ball innings included three boundaries.

The West Indies, who scored 156 for the loss of three wickets off 18.4 overs, won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare.

Khan, who bowled 16 wicketless balls, conceded 26. Ishant Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31. Harbhajan bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31.

Irfan, who bowled two overs, conceded nine. He picked up a wicket. Ojha, who bowled three overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket. Yusuf, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up a wicket.
