SA knock Dhoni-led India out

India made no changes to their playing eleven.

South Africa made four changes to the eleven that last played the Indians – Justin Kemp, Shaun Pollock, Vernon Philander and Johan van der Wath made way for Jean-Paul Duminy, Johan Botha, Roelof van der Merwe and Wayne Parnell.

On winning the toss, Graeme Smith, South Africa’s skipper, chose to bat.

Herschelle Gibbs, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Ten balls into the match, Rudra Pratap Singh broke the 13-run stand.

South Africa scored 50 off 6.3 overs (40 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Smith, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. Forty-one balls later, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja. Harbhajan Singh broke the 46-run stand.

A B de Villiers was the player of the match. His half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 41 balls.

Duminy, who faced 15 balls, scored 10. Thirty-seven balls after Smith’s dismissal, he was stumped by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper. Suresh Raina broke the 39-run stand.

South Africa scored 100 off 16.1 overs (98 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

De Villiers, whose 51-ball innings included seven boundaries, eventually scored 63. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja, who broke the 12-run stand.

Mark Boucher, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Rudra Pratap. Zaheer Khan broke the 10-run stand.

Albie Morkel, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten, as was Botha, who faced a couple of balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a boundary.

India eventually conceded three extras. South Africa scored 130 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs. Ishant Sharma, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen. Rohit Sharma, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 15. Yuvraj Singh, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 29.

Raina, who bowled an over, conceded half-a-dozen. He picked up a wicket. Rudra Pratap, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.

Khan and Jadeja bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded nine. Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 19-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Thirty-eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Duminy. Botha broke the 48-run stand.

India scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). India had conceded an extra at that point.

Raina, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Morne Morkel. Needless to say, Botha was in seventh heaven.

Rohit, whose 28-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 29. Five balls later, he was caught by Dale Steyn. Duminy broke the one-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 11. Dhoni, who faced a dozen balls, scored just five. Eighteen balls later, Boucher and Morne ran him out.

Yusuf Pathan, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Van der Merwe broke the two-run stand.

India scored 100 off 17 overs (105 balls). South Africa had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Harbhajan, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 14. Twenty-three balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Botha broke the 31-run stand.

Yuvraj, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 25. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Boucher. Steyn broke the run-a-ball stand.

Although he was unbeaten, Jadeja, who faced half-a-dozen balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Khan, who faced three balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Three balls later, he was caught by de Villiers. Steyn broke the four-run stand.

Rudra Pratap, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

India, who scored 118 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by a dozen runs.

Albie, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded a dozen. Wayne Parnell bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22. Morne bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 23.

Duminy bowled an over, conceding three. He picked up a wicket, as did van der Merwe, who bowled four overs, conceding 13. Steyn bowled three wickets, conceding 25. He picked up a couple of wickets. Botha bowled four overs, conceding 16. He picked up three scalps.

India were knocked out.
