Sri Lanka made (Fernan)do changes to the eleven
that last played the Indians – Dasun Shanaka and Vishwa made way for Sadeera
Samarawickrama and Chaturanga de Silva.
On winning the toss, Thisara Perera, Sri Lanka’s
skipper, inserted the hosts.
The first Powerplay of India’s innings – which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. Their openers put
on 59.
India’s openers scored 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls).
Sri Lanka hadn’t conceded any extras at that point. While the contribution of
Rohit, India’s skipper and the player of the (Shar)match, to the partnership
was 25, Lokesh Rahul’s contribution to it was 26.
Sharma’s half-century – which included seven boundaries
and three sixes – came off 23 balls.

Rahul, whose 49-ball innings included five boundaries and
eight sixes, eventually scored 89. Thirty-five balls after Sharma’s dismissal,

a batting review. Shreyas Iyer, the batsman, faced a ball, failing to get off

trapped leg before wicket by Thisara, who broke the one-run stand.
Dhoni, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of

Gunaratne, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark.
Three balls later, he was stumped by Dhoni. Yadav broke the five-run stand.
De Silva, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A
couple of balls later, Chahal broke the one-run stand.
Samarawickrama, whose two-ball innings included a
boundary, scored five. The next ball, he was stumped by Dhoni. Chahal broke the
two-run stand.
Dananjaya, whose three-ball innings included a boundary,
scored five. Three balls later, he was caught by Pandey. Chahal broke the
six-run stand.
Chameera, who faced five balls, scored three. Nine
balls later, Pandya broke the two-run stand.
Pradeep, who faced five balls, didn’t get off the
mark. He was unbeaten.
Mathews was absent hurt.
India eventually conceded nine extras. Sri Lanka, who
were dismissed for 172 off 17.2 overs, lost by 88 runs. Jasprit Bumrah bowled
three wicketless overs, conceding 21.
Unadkat bowled three overs, conceding 22. He picked up
a wicket, as did Pandya, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceding 23. Yadav and Chahal
bowled four overs each, conceding 52 apiece. While the former picked up three
scalps, the latter picked up four.
India led the three-match series 2-0. In fact, they
won the series with a match to spare.
