India made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s skipper, chose to bat.

Rohit Sharma, whose three-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls into the match, he was caught by Lendl Simmons. Fidel Edwards broke the 12-run stand.

Suresh Raina, who faced eight balls, scored five. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Denesh Ramdin. Edwards broke the run-a-ball innings.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Three balls later, he was caught by Simmons. Dwayne, the player of the match, Br(av)oke the two-run stand.

India scored 50 off 8.4 overs (54 balls). The West Indies had conceded three extras at that point.

Dhoni, who faced 23 balls, scored 11. Forty-seven balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was caught by Andre Fletcher. Bravo broke the 37-run stand.

India scored 100 off 15.3 overs (96 balls). The West Indies had conceded four extras at that point.

Yuvraj Singh’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 37 balls.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Yuvraj’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Yusuf Pathan’s contribution to it was 20. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Yuvraj, whose 43-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 67. Thirty-three balls later, he was caught by Edwards, who broke the 64-run partnership.

Yusuf, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 31. Nine balls later, Bravo broke the 10-run stand.

Irfan Pathan, who faced three balls, scored a couple. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Simmons. Bravo broke the one-run stand.

Harbhajan Singh, whose four-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 13. He was unbeaten, as was Zaheer Khan, who didn’t face a ball.

The West Indies eventually conceded five extras at that point.

India scored 150 off 20 overs (124 balls). They scored 153 for the loss of seven wickets at that end of their innings.

Kieron Pollard, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Sulieman Benn and Chris Gayle, the West Indies’ skipper, bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 26, the latter conceded 13. Jerome Taylor, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 44.

Edwards, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up three scalps. Bravo, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked up four scalps.

Fletcher, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Yuvraj. Irfan broke the nine-ball stand.

Gayle, whose 28-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 22. Thirty-eight balls later, he was caught by Khan. Yusuf broke the 33-run stand.

The West Indies scored 50 off nine overs (55 balls). India had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Simmons’ contribution to the partnership was 20, Bravo’s contribution to it was 27. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Simmons, whose 37-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 44. Forty-four balls after Gayle’s dismissal, he was caught by Irfan. Pragyan Ojha broke the 58-run partnership.

Bravo’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 29 balls.

The West Indies scored 150 off 18.3 overs (114 balls). India had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Bravo’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s contribution to it was 18. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Bravo, whose 36-ball innings included four boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 66. He was unbeaten, as was Chanderpaul, who didn’t add to the aforementioned score. His nine-ball innings included three boundaries.

The West Indies, who scored 156 for the loss of three wickets off 18.4 overs, won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare.

Khan, who bowled 16 wicketless balls, conceded 26. Ishant Sharma, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31. Harbhajan bowled four wicketless overs, including a maiden. He conceded 31.
